Anellotech Wants to Help Recycle the 855 Billion Sachets Used Every Year
Earlier this week, Anellotech shared on LinkedIn our interest in testing how Plas-TCat®
technology can recycle waste sachets into valuable aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylenes)
and light olefins.
Why focus on sachets?
In 2018, the world used 855 billion sachets—over 100 per person annually. Yet, only 10%
of all plastics are ever recycled, and for sachets, the rate is nearly zero.
1 Sachet packaging is projected to grow from $9.8 billion in 2025 to $16.9 billion by 2035.2
Their composite design—multi-layered plastics, aluminum, and adhesives—makes them
notoriously difficult to recycle with current methods.3
How Plas-TCat® Can Help
Unlike traditional thermal pyrolysis, Plas-TCat® catalytic cracking processes all the
materials in sachets, including complex layers of PE, PP, nylon, EVOH, and polyurethane,
without requiring separation. Our technology is scalable to 200 KTA+ plants and can
handle true mixed plastic waste streams, converting them into valuable raw materials for a
circular economy.
Proven Technology
At our ½ TPD TCat-8® plant in Texas, we’ve successfully demonstrated Plas-TCat® using
mixed U.S. plastic waste streams. This includes materials common in sachets, alongside
3% ash from fillers like calcium carbonate and fiberglass. See below for Anellotech’s
representative feedstock makeup.
Call to Action
We’re seeking representative sachet samples from around the world to validate our
process under real-world conditions. If you’re a brand owner or manufacturer, please
contact us at information@anellotech.com. Contributors will be acknowledged in future
updates for their role in advancing circular solutions.
